Encoding of Target Detection during Visual Search by Single Neurons in the Human Brain (Current Biology)
 


Wang et al. reveal a new class of neurons in the human medial temporal lobe that signals target detection during visual search. These neurons have invariant response to visual category, predict detected or missed targets, do not depend on explicitly defined targets, and likely have a frontal origin.
