Resurrecting the Bacterial Tyrosyl-tRNA Synthetase/tRNA Pair for Expanding the Genetic Code of Both E. coli and Eukaryotes (Cell Chemical Biology)

Italia et al. functionally replaced the native tyrosyl pair of E. coli with a heterologous counterpart to create ATMY strains, which can host the directed evolution of the `liberated` pair for selectively charging useful Uaas. The resulting engineered pairs can also be used for Uaa incorporation in eukaryotes.
