Mixed Lineage Kinase Domain-like Protein MLKL Breaks Down Myelin following Nerve Injury (Molecular Cell)

Myelin, the electrical insulator of nerve fibers, is formed by Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system. In this study, Ying et al. discovered that MLKL, a protein known to function in a form of regulated necrosis, is required for myelin sheath breakdown following sciatic nerve injury independent of its necrosis function.
