A Conserved Basic Patch and Central Kink in the Nipah Virus Phosphoprotein Multimerization Domain Are Essential for Polymerase Function (Structure)

The highly pathogenic Nipah virus, which caused a lethal outbreak in India in 2018, encodes its own polymerase complex. Bruhn et al. identified a basic patch essential for polymerase function in the phosphoprotein component of this complex. Interestingly, this patch is conserved across several genera within the Paramyxoviridae family.
