We welcome the active discussion on the subject of Cre-mediated mutagenesis in mice and the comments by Wherry et al. and Reizis. Reizis writes, `Even though the efficiency of recombination may differ between reporter alleles and conditional alleles of interest (as pointed out by Becher et al.), this can be adjusted by the choice of the reporter. In my lab`s experience, the above-mentioned Rosa26LSL-EYFP reporter (Srinivas et al., 2001) closely approximates the average recombination efficiency of most conditional alleles.` Here is where we disagree.
