AUTACs: Cargo-Specific Degraders Using Selective Autophagy (Molecular Cell)
 


Targeted clearance of intracellular debris is a promising new approach in drug discovery. Takahashi et al. developed AUTAC molecules that destine proteins and dysfunctional mitochondria for selective autophagy. A mitochondria-targeted AUTAC accelerated mitochondrial turnover and suppressed apoptosis against mitochondrial injury. Moreover, mitochondrial activities were improved in Down syndrome patient-derived cells.
