T Cell Activation through Isolated Tight Contacts (Cell Reports)

T cells engage antigen-presenting cells via dynamic protrusions before forming a tight immune synapse. We show dynamic nanoscale patterning of the T cell receptor and related signaling and structural proteins at early and tight contacts. This patterning allows rapid and robust T cell activation, making these early contacts both sensing and decision-making entities.
