Post-translational Modification of OTULIN Regulates Ubiquitin Dynamics and Cell Death (Cell Reports)

Douglas and Saleh show that the deubiquitinase OTULIN promotes the survival of keratinocytes. OTULIN function is regulated by cleavage during apoptosis and hyper-phosphorylation during necroptosis. They find that OTULIN sustains the deubiquitinase CYLD and identify DUSP14 as an OTULIN phosphatase that restricts necroptosis.
