We read with great interest the impressive and well-written article by Preisser et al [1] on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) persistence in patients treated with radical prostatectomy at the leading European centre in terms of caseload. We have observed similar results in our own series at San Raffaele Hospital, and we agree with the main conclusions of the manuscript [2,3]. We respectfully highlight one limitation of the study related to patients with PSA persistence following surgery because of the presence of benign prostatic disease left behind after surgery.
