Batlle et al. show that alternative splicing controls heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein D-like (hnRNPDL) phase separation, aggregation, and solubility. Mutations that cause LGMD1G accelerate hnRNPDL aggregation and promote insolubility in Drosophila.
