Four Individually Identified Paired Dopamine Neurons Signal Reward in Larval (Current Biology)
 


Dopamine (DA) neurons function in reinforcement processing. Rohwedder et al. find four pairs of DA neurons in larval Drosophila to be necessary and sufficient for reward, but not punishment, learning. Combined with previous findings, this shows that different DA neurons mediate reward and punishment.
