Recent Visual Experience Shapes Visual Processing in Rats through Stimulus-Specific Adaptation and Response Enhancement (Current Biology)
 


Rats rely on vision for timely detection of aerial predators and need a visual system specialized in change detection. Vinken et al. show an increased sensitivity for irregular stimuli from rat primary to latero-intermediate visual cortex. This effect is supported by a surprise-based response enhancement only observed in the latter.
