The International Reach of Toxicology (Toxicological Sciences)

The initial draft of this editorial began during a transatlantic flight en route to a meeting. As I anticipated the opportunity to interact with colleagues, I was once again reminded of the global nature of our field. While countries and regions of the world face different challenges with regards to the adverse effects of exposures to environmental and pharmaceutical agents, there are common toxicological principles that are universal. As a scientist I have always embraced the work of my colleagues, but as editor I have taken a more concerted approach to travel throughout the world to listen to others, and to share my own work. The privilege of attending multiple EUROTOX (Association of European Toxicologists and European Societies of Toxicology) and IUTOX (International Union of Toxicology) meetings has given me access to representatives from dozens of toxicology organizations for the purpose of outreach and promoting the Journal and the Society. The upcoming annual meetings of the Japanese Society of Toxicology and the Chinese Society of Toxicology will provide additional opportunities for outreach.
