Differential Control of Axonal and Somatic Resting Potential by Voltage-Dependent Conductances in Cortical Layer 5 Pyramidal Neurons (Neuron)
 


Hu and Bean show that the proximal axon of pyramidal neurons has a negative resting potential relative to the soma. The difference arises from axonally localized Kv7 channels, whose resting activation depends on depolarizing somatic HCN current flowing to the axon.
