Identification of Embryonic Neural Plate Border Stem Cells and Their Generation by Direct Reprogramming from Adult Human Blood Cells (Cell Stem Cell)

Thier, Trumpp, et al. demonstrate how to reprogram human somatic cells into induced neural plate border stem cells (iNBSCs). Self-renewing iNBSCs show multilineage differentiation toward CNS and neural crest and are modifiable by CRISPR/Cas9 technology. NBSCs can also be established from mouse embryos and might have a direct counterpart during development.
