Transferrin 1 Functions in Iron Trafficking and Genetically Interacts with Ferritin in Drosophila melanogaster (Cell Reports)

Xiao et al. report that Drosophila melanogaster transferrin 1 (Tsf1), a homolog of mammalian serum transferrin (TF), functions in trafficking iron between the gut and the fat body, similar to TF in mammals. Tsf1 and ferritin, the two iron traffickers, compete for iron in the intestines of Drosophila.
