Source-Sink Regulation Is Mediated by Interaction of an FT Homolog with a SWEET Protein in Potato (Current Biology)

Abelenda et al. show that a tuber-specific, FT-like protein interacts with a SWEET sugar efflux transporter to block sucrose leakage into the apoplast. This work helps to explain the redirection of assimilate flow to developing sink organs and opens the possibility of engineering source-sink relationships.
