Re: David W. Donnelly, Anna Gavin, Amy Downing, et al. Regional Variations in Quality of Survival Among Men with Prostate Cancer Across the United Kingdom. Eur Urol. In press. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.eururo.2019.04.018 (European Urology)
In their article on quality of life among men with prostate cancer in the UK, Donnelly et al. [1] conclude that there are regional differences. They indicate that these differences require exploration `to identify factors linked to enhanced quality of survival`. The National Prostate Cancer Audit (NPCA), a national service evaluation project in England and Wales, provides 14 performance indicators that can be used for that purpose [2]. In its 2018 annual report, the NPCA describes the care that 40000 patients, diagnosed between April 2016 and March 2017, received across the care pathway, ranging from the percentage of patients diagnosed with metastatic disease to longer-term outcomes, using information reported by patients themselves, similar to those reported by Donnelly et al, linked to national electronic data sets.
