A Bacterial Effector Reveals the V-ATPase-ATG16L1 Axis that Initiates Xenophagy (Cell)
 


Upon infection, internalized bacteria cause damage to the residing vacuole, which is sensed by the vacuolar ATPase that then recruits ATG16L1, and this defense response is blocked by an effector protein from pathogenic Salmonella.
