A New TALe to Tell? (Cell Host & Microbe)

In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Wu et al. propose that a bacterial type III effector modifies the host milieu specifically to inhibit competing pathogens with little effect on the inciting pathogen populations. The work raises awareness to examine effectors for niche modification and has implications for the microbial community structure.
