What can rheumatology expect from real-world data? (Rheumatology)

As we would all agree, randomized clinical trials (RCTs) are the gold standard for assessing the efficacy and short-term safety of therapies and play a key role in drug licensing and approvals. But what about patients who would never meet the inclusion criteria of randomized trials due to age, comorbidity or contraindications? Similarly, what about the occurrence of less common or latent adverse events? When doctors wish to transfer results from clinical trials to their daily practice, they are often faced with the questions: Do the findings of this RCT apply to my patient? What about my patient`s risk-benefit profile and safety in the long run?
