Dopamine Regulation of GABAA Receptors Contributes to Light/Dark Modulation of the ON-Cone Bipolar Cell Receptive Field Surround in the Retina (Current Biology)

The neural mechanisms in vertebrate retina underlying the receptive field surround and its modulation by the ambient light level are unclear. Chaffiol et al. show that the GABAA receptor activity of ON-cone bipolar cell dendrites depends on light activation of their dopamine D1 receptors and that GABAA receptors mediate surround light responses.
