Coordinated Emergence of Hippocampal Replay and Theta Sequences during Post-natal Development (Current Biology)
 


Sequential activity of hippocampal neurons during exploration and sleep may aid memory strengthening and planning. Muessig et al. show that early in development, the hippocampus is capable of recalling only single locations and then gradually acquires the ability to stitch together separate locations into ordered trajectories spanning across space.
