Commensal Neisseria Kill Neisseria gonorrhoeae through a DNA-Dependent Mechanism (Cell Host & Microbe)

Kim et al. report that the STD pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae is killed when it takes up DNA released by related commensal bacteria. Neisseria gonorrhoeae employs the DNA uptake system to acquire antibiotic resistance genes and evade the immune response, thereby suggesting that this system may be the pathogen`s Achilles heel.
