Variation in Tolerance to Parasites Affects Vectorial Capacity of Natural Asian Tiger Mosquito Populations (Current Biology)

Dharmarajan et al. quantify parasite resistance and tolerance in natural mosquito populations. They find that mosquitoes from high transmission intensity areas have higher tolerance and lower resistance and that tolerance increases vectorial capacity. Thus, transmission intensity affects vector evolution, which can feed back to impact disease risk.
