In this issue of European Urology Oncology, Russel et al [1] present a meta-analysis evaluating whether overall survival is affected by a delay in performing cystectomy in patients with bladder cancer. It has previously been shown that a delay in the time from diagnosis to definitive treatment has a detrimental effect on outcomes [2]. The current manuscript evaluates the state of the contemporary literature to determine differences from prior meta-analyses. The findings from this updated analysis support previous assertions that delays for patients with high-risk bladder cancer in obtaining definitive therapy will negatively impact survival and also highlight some important observations regarding the state of the current literature on delays in treatment.
