Beyond science: Alfred Russel Wallace in the public eye (Current Biology)

Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913) is famous for not being famous. With Charles Darwin, he was the co-discoverer of the theory of evolution by natural selection -- their co-authored paper read at the Linnean Society in London on July 1st, 1858 unveiled the theory -- but today it is solely Darwin who is lionized. We can use a twenty-first-century metric to quantify the extent of Wallace`s eclipse by Darwin: an analysis of page views on their Wikipedia pages. Over the past three months from the time of writing this review, Darwin has averaged 4,471 views daily, Wallace 612.
