Opposite Control of Excitatory and Inhibitory Synapse Formation by Slitrk2 and Slitrk5 on Dopamine Neurons Modulates Hyperactivity Behavior (Cell Reports)

Dopaminergic neurons have previously been associated with hyperactivity-related behaviors. However, the cellular mechanisms involved remain largely unknown. Here, Salesse et al. reveal functions of Slitrk2 and Slitk5 in synapse formation and neuronal morphology. They show that changes in excitation and inhibition of developing dopamine neurons lead to hyperactivity.
