Immunosuppression by Mutated Calreticulin Released from Malignant Cells (Molecular Cell)
 


Mutations affecting exon 9 of the CALR gene can be found in many forms of cancer and lead to the calreticulin (CALR) protein that is released. Liu et al. have shown that extracellular CALR inhibits the phagocytosis by dendritic cells, exerts immunosuppressive effects, and suppresses the effect of anticancer immunotherapy.
